If we accept for the moment that distributing airport codes with
an operating system is a Good Thing (I think it is), the present
"airport" file is rather incomplete and very biased toward
American locales.

I have a current listing that is much more complete, and which
includes other useful information.  Here is a sample:

The first code is an international meteorological code, second the
alphanumeric station id, description, state, country, lat/lon, elevation.
Would make a good source for an automatic atlas.

The file is 1.1MB, covering 15000 stations.  Does anyone want to integrate
it?

Oh yeah, the "countries" file says that IY is Italy.
