Hm, there is an effort by Stefan Greven (greven@convex.com) consisting
of a generic logical PCMCIA bus driver, PCMCIA bus controler drivers for
(up to now) only two variants of i386 machines, and patches for a few
serial, SCSI, and Ethernet drivers to link into that.

I'm using his patches (when they where still to -1.0) and used them in a
production environment for nearly a year with the NE4100 and later the
3C589B Ethernet cards. AFAIK, the newer version is available as patchkit
to -current.
