Actually, I've heard things which led me to believe that certain
individuals in the greater Internet community were seriously pissed
when Berkeley, umm, absconded with net 127 (1/256 of the entire
address space, when net 0 was already not being used!) as a loopback
interface, and that 0.0.0.0 was more "politically correct".

Ask a non-unix-weenie old-time internet person about this some day;
I'd be interested in the reaction.

Jon Postel might be a good choice..
