Thanks to Alexis Ellwood from MIT, my SMC problem has been solved.
It turned out that the fdc driver bug is still in -current.
Changing the config from
fd*     at fdc? drive ?
to
fd0     at fdc? drive ?
made the SMC board work. Weird... Magic... ;-)
