Agreed, they're not great.  But they're significantly better than
what's there now, and they don't require the effort (or time) involved
in designing and implementing a reasonable streams...

Well, from what i hear, Mike Karels has ... TONS of free time to work
on it...  (well, maybe not... 8-)

"I dunno."  I'd guess BStreams are on indefinite hold.
