You left a lot of important information out, so we can't really do more
than guess, but I'd say that the value of either sockaddr, thataddr or
port is wrong (or that you've found a perl5 bug).   My first guess
would be that the ip address is wrong - probably not in network byte
order.   How that would happen if you used gethostbyname, I don't
know, but it's worth checking out.
