Well, telnet has a protocol; rlogin is a botch.  But, I digress.

telnet is not without its flaws, either.  Try suspending and restarting
telnet, and what what happens to your VDISCARD character processing.
Hint:  it's not transparent!

I sent this as a bug to some newsgroups and the telnet maintainers a
while ago--it's a layering problem in the telnet client code, and
requires some system assumptions to fix :(
