Yeah, i missed it.  Not the first time that's happened, nor will it be
the last, undoubtedly.

I _can_ say that i tried it on the one i386 box that i have
somewhat-available for testing (does "on the opposite coast" count for
available? 8-) and (under light load) it worked well enough...  (it
even stayed up for several days, until i rebooted it.  looking at the
message log, though, the kernel did get the wrong masks.  "odd.")
