Subject: chat -v, am I stupid, or is this a bug?

Where, oh where, should I look for the output of 'chat -v'?  I put
connect "chat -v ......"
in /etc/uucp/options (secure site, can you tell?) (well, secure enough for
me...) and got no output, so I had to guess by watching how long things
ran for where it was hanging.  I looked in /var/log and on the console.
