Running V.42 seriously screws your latency, though, and more
importantly, it crashes my modem's firmware about once an hour.  I'm
sufficiently ignorant of PPP that I didn't know it had a seperate CRC
- this sounds like a big win, and I may try to switch.  Thanks for
pointing it out!
