This is also an issue for things like PCMCIA devices...or removable
hardrives, or hot swap hardware (don't laugh, I know of people running
BSDI on Centrum boxes as term servers and routers).

I would be very nice if there were some sort of general support for
post boot configuration of a device. Things like the PCMCIA ethernet
drivers have to fudge.
General support for plugging in anything doesn't have to be
offered, but it would be nice to be able to initiate reconfig of
a device after boot. Either to add it or remove it - or reconfigure it.
