does anyone else have problems with telnetd/rlogind failing to
   update /var/run/utmp ?  i no longer get utmp entries for anyone
   who telnet/rlogin's in to my machine...

just for the record (and to note my stupidity..) this was caused
by a lack of pty entries in /etc/ttys ...
