   Eric Allman does the same thing, i believe.  It might seem "polite",
   but if you converse often with someone who does it, it becomes
   annoying _rather_ quickly.

what larry wall does is, imo, the best idea.  it only sends once a
week, unless the message changes, and if you send him a message with
`@SHUTUP' it will never again send you the message.
