I'm not sure if this is a port-i386 specific thing or not, so I'm mailing
it here.

After compiling a new kernel, X will no longer start because it seems to be
hanging on opening the mouse.  Also, on my ppp -connected machine, nothing
modem related works any longer.

Neither cu nor kermit talk to it, and programs I've written (which did
work under 1.0 fine) fail as well.
