It's bad on the DeskJet500, because a reset signal on the parallel port
makes the thing cycle its paper feed mechanism, make loud unhealthy
clunking sounds, etc.  It also disturbs the end of print jobs which may
still be draining from the printer buffer--I think I recall the printer
ack'ing all the data before having printed it, and the reset for the
next print job comes before the page is printed.
