Thanks to everyone who responded.  Like I thought, it was something small and
stupid I did.  I can't get to the machine right now, but it should be the
set-uid problem and Mark Gooderum hit the nail on the head checking on if I ran
the tar files with the p option, which I have a feeling I didn't do.  I'll just
reinsall things and start over.  Thanks to everyone who helped out, and sorry
for the unnecessary bandwidth.  Next time, I pay more attention to what I'm
doing.
