the next NetBSD release is (pretty much) gauranteed to work on the
decstations.

yup. well, at least some decstations.

It is really called NetBSD/pmax.

by hacking together a userland environment under ultrix, you shouldn't
have too much trouble building the kernel. As for the userland, things
are a bit more problematic. The pmax port is being held back by
exactly this: no userland binaries yet (basically, the problem is
linker and assembler support).
