I had a problem with syslogd core dumping and determined it was due to
spaces used in the /etc/syslog.conf file in the place of tabs. Is there
a reason the selector and action fields must be tab delimited? Is there
anywhere in the /etc/syslog.conf file where spaces have significance?

I have a patch which allows either tabs or spaces (or both) to syslogd.c,
but I want to be certain that I'm not breaking something by disallowing
space characters in the selector field.
