A while ago, I mailed that the new(er) wd.c hung my controller with
2 disks attached during startup. I 'fixed' this by doing a bogus hack.
Charles Hannum suggested that I check if the alt_sts register of my controller
actually worked. Well, the busy bit in this was always set..  

I switched controllers, and all is fine now. So I guess it was a hardware
fault.
