*i* see no reason to set change the default; odds are, most people
will have to change it anyway...
the pid file idea *is* a *wonderful* idea, but the implementation
given is suboptimal, for the reason given. it should write out
a 'slattach.%d', where the %d is the slip line number that it's
attaching...
