     Now, this is an interesting idea.  The new Motorola V.FAST modem
and a couple others connect to the host via a parallel port, not a
serial port.  Also, newer printers (i.e. HP LJ4 series) return status
and error information using bidirectional parallel ports.  Both of
these mean that bidirectional parallel ports going through the tty
stuff and smarter printer drivers are going to be needed in the not
too distant future.
