Okay, I got it to work, something stupid & something stupider.  I had AP set
in the /etc/gettytabs instead of NP.  The other thing is I needed to modify
getty to not reset to CS7.  The line just a couple before the exec cmd
that says 'allflags' was commented out, and it now seems to work fine so
far.
