I just seen a book the other day that looked like it covered this information
in some detail, although not as much as I would like.  It covered basic
things like floppy controller, western digital hard drive controller, 
serial ports, and the like.  I don't think it touched SCSI, or anything
interesting like that, but I may have missed something.  The book
was called "Undocumented PC".  From the same authors as "Undocumented DOS"
and "Undocumented Windows".  Check it out, looked 1/2 way decent.
