The things get confusing with too many com-driver derivates, I already need
two of the patches together (COM_BIDIR and Bill Sommerfeld' AST 4 port), which
use 'flags' in a non compatible way.

I could easily merge the patches - but I would prefer an official definition
of the flags meanings.
