I too have a Gateway machine (4DX2-66V) and have not had any serious
trouble with it.  There is a problem with the Ultrastor 34f SCSI
controller and this motherboard (JX-30, I believe; could be wrong)--I
had to disable the external cache on the motherboard to prevent an
occasional wedge during disk access.  Ultrastor says this is a problem
with the motherboard and sent me a firmware upgrade for the 34f that
was supposed to work around it; it didn't help (but disabling the
external cache does).
