I forgot to mention that although I just noticed the "timeout updating
leds" today, it may have been introduced earlier.  I never use the
num-lock key, and I have my caps-lock key mapped to look like a
control key, so I wouldn't have noticed.

The only reason I noticed at all is because I saw the warning printed
at startup today.
