I decided to install the new /etc/rc file and remove the ldconfig I had
put in my /etc/rc.local file.  Unfortunately, the "clean up left-over
files" removes the hints file created by the ldconfig.  Maybe the file
cleanup could be prior to the ldconfig (at least that's what I did for
the time being).
