You shouldn't be logging on to /dev/console if you are using X. Make
/dev/vga (with MAKEDEV) if it doesn't already exist, modify your
/etc/ttys to use vga instead of console, reboot for good measure, and
your problem should be fixed.
i think i'm doing this right, and xfree86 2.0 with xdm seems to running
fine. however, logins from xdm do not appear in response to finger and
who requests, so i assume utmp isnt being modified properly. is there a
way to get xdm logins to register properly?
