Well, I still haven't gotten any offers for someone to hand over a
   working gcc2 and ld kit...

I just put such a kit in:

sun-lamp.cs.berkeley.edu:/pub/outgoing/shlib-bootstrap.tar.gz

Note that you can't read the directory; you'll have to grab the file
blind.

Contained therein:

usr/bin/as
usr/bin/cc
usr/bin/cpp
usr/bin/gcc
usr/bin/ld
usr/lib/libc.so.0.0
usr/lib/libgnumalloc.so.0.0
usr/libexec/cc1
usr/libexec/cc1plus
usr/libexec/cpp
usr/libexec/ld.so

The executables are all linked with those shared libraries, so the two
are not really seperable.
