Seems I've hosed myself.  :(               

junkbox# make
cc -O -I/usr/src/gnu/lib/libmalloc -c /usr/src/gnu/lib/libmalloc/combined.c 
ld.so: Undefined symbol in /usr/lib/libgnumalloc.so.0.0: _abort

It worked before I installed the new, latest ld.  :(
Anyone wanna ftp me a fresh set of shared libraries and ld* ?

tar it all up, and stick it in tbird.cc.iastate.edu:/incoming  ;)
