Comment:

 Supposedly fixed in 8481ba05c51c5be2b9ff24ad5e5e9b91e6921a63. I say
 supposedly because this is addressing a race condition and I'm not sure I
 caught all corner cases.  But I can't trigger it any more and the new code
 makes sense, so I assume it's fixed.

 Unfortunately, the changes are too intrusive to be pulled up to 0.10
 (read: the copy in the NetBSD tree).
