 OK, the stuck subprocess issue has been fixed in
 996f9c26e07a86607f373c8f0243d57329c11543.

 I now have to investigate what happens when the subprocess attempts to
 read from stdin.  I think this was also reported by Antti as a problematic
 case (that would hang atf-run instead of making it crash).
