Right. Yesterday I re-compiled the kernel because I integrated changes
into the par.c driver. All the compiler did was to compile the new
par.c and link the whole thing again. Guess what? Now the display
works again.

While this is fine, it's pretty obvious, that there is something going
wrong in the code.
