Hang on... I missed the beginnings of this, but I have implemented:

1.  slip/ppp accounts for users.  Either "puser" or "suser", or with
a thing in /etc/profile (it asks for term type, and special cases SLIP and
PPP.)

2.  Automatic dialin including restarting pppd.

What were the questions?
