Basically, the (g)cc that comes with NetBSD is ok for about anything (unless
you're involved with some heavy C++-programming).

Should be ok to keep sources for a -current-kernel plus some of your own
C-programms (as always, depending a great deal on how big they are ;-).

It stands for "Software Update Protocol" and is the preferred method to update
your sources (kernel, etc.). Try getting the sup-archive somethere on
ftp.netbsd.org.

Erm, try the 4.4BSD Porgrammer's Documentation. If you have used any C-compiler
on some (decent ;) Unix before, you shouldn't experience any surprises.
