  The only problem with this is that I am not using the latest sources.
Identd was built on January 18, and my kernel is built from sources
supped on May 31.  Identd had been working with kernels compiled
from those sources up through June 22.  On June 24, I noticed it
failing.

  It's kind of hard to 'attach' to a non-existent process :-).  I think
identd is getting a bus error signal and aborting immediately.  I was
thinking about trying to start it in stand-alone mode using gdb and
seeing if that tells me anything.
