 Either kill the slattach command or try 'ifconfig sl0 down'.

 Yes, use normal modem/terminal-program to restablish the connection and
then start slip on the other side. The probable problem will be that your 
slip-provider offers dynamic IP and not static IP-Numbers. Hence you
need to reset/reconfigure the entire network config.
