I admit that I've never looked at any implementation of non-contig
memory, but would the simplest solution not be to pretend to have
one contiguous block of memory, with some bits in the middle being
permanently allocated? Or is the memory management scheme such that
the amount of overhead is related to the total amount of "real" memory
(as opposed to, for instance, the total amount of free real memory)?
