this is doubtful, as a fair number of people run on Sparcs with (at
least some) SunOS file systems...

Yup, that's how Sun does their installation mdia (or at least "did,"
the last time i installed SunOS, which was around 4.1.3).
It's sick, but it works for them. 8-)
