Ok, yell at me.  I don't want the sdXx IDs to match their SCSI IDs at all  
now, since the number of IDE drives messes with it anyways.  So, how about  
having them just increment from sd0?

On my NeXT, I have an ID 0 and an ID 6, they may to sd0 and sd1 respectively.   
Basically the same way that rst0 always maps to the 1st tape drive regardless  
of its SCSI ID.

Alternatively, mapping IDE0 and IDE1 to sd8 and sd9 might not be so bad, if  
the other suggestion goes down in flames...
