I went back and looked and I think it's part of the Geode chipset itself. It 
shows up in dmesg as: 

vga0 at pci0 dev 1 function 1: Advanced Micro Devices product 0x2081 (rev. 0x00)

I think thats why I assumed a seperate amd chipset but it looks like it is part 
of the processor chipset itself.

Just a note, I did have this running with a DSL image on a usb flash mem stick 
and it did bring up a desktop so I'm assuming it can be done.
