Rust bootstrap via python?

Sometime ago I hear rumours about some other project (was that Bitrig?)
bootstrapping lang/rust via a python script "emulating" a minimalistic
rust compiler - but my memory is dim and right now I can't find
references to it.

This would be interesting to solve the trusted bootstrap sets issue
and maybe for porting to new architectures.

Anoyne got any pointers?
