Hello.  I think you and Manuel are right. My patch is too draconian,
and I didn't consider portable disk devices which might be plugged in at
run time. Also, I wanted to appologize for the possibly "less hacky"
characterization I used in my report and my mail.  No offense meant, and I
hope none taken.
	In the mean time, I'll try to further refine where this timing problem
is, and see if it is really a problem for the driver.
