As far as I remember, you can do whatever you want with a BSD code,
even borrow it for proprietary use, as long as you keep the initial
copyright intact. 

The GPL licence states that if you borrow or reuse even the minimal part
of the code, the resulting software must be licen[cs]ed under GPL terms.

I might by wrong though.
