swsensor(4) probably not very useful in a production environment. The primary use is as a diagnostic and debugging tool.
One of the first requests I received when I joined the developer ranks was to provide a mechanism for triggering sensor events in a controlled manner, without requiring specific hardware. It has been quite useful recently in tracking down a couple of obscure bugs.
swsensor(4) will also become an integral part of some soon-to-be-added atf regression tests.
