...you can do:

sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1

That will enable forwarding, but you'll still have a smaller mb_map (the
GATEWAY option doubles the side of this kernel map).

You can get the 1.2 kernel sources and build those... they're on
ftp.netbsd.org in /pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-1.2/source, I believe.
