The SMD drivers (xy and xd) work fine in the sparc port. I believe
they are very close to working for the sun3 port (we did shake some bugs
out, so make sure you've got the latest version of the sun3 drivers).
The xd card is faster than the xy card, so hopefully you have an xd.
If you have trouble I will be happy to help you with SMD specific problems.
Both Gordon and I have all the docs on these controllers.

A word of caution: don't throw SunOS away, as NetBSD does not have
a SMD disk format utilitity. I've found that some of my older SMD
drives need to be reformatted or repaired every now and then and SunOS
is the only way to do it. I have a minimal diskless SunOS environment
that I keep on reserve for quick access to "format".
