Hello,

I had a look at xorg's sunffb driver and found they support XRender acceler=
ation ( since the graphics processor supports alpha blending ) and use XAA,=
unlike the driver from xfree86. The downside - it doesn't offer 8bit visua=
ls anymore.
So I did a quick merge ( just replaced the acceleration code ) and indeed i=
t works fine and anti-aliased text rendering for instance is MUCH faster, e=
specially noticeable with gtk 2.8 / cairo applications.=20

My question - should this be imported into xsrc? If so - should we preserve=
the old driver somehow so people who want it can still have 8bit?

have fun
Michael
