That's a very interesting question, and you'd probably have to get an
expensive colorimeter to determine how many shades of color can be
distinguished.

But seriously, that sounds like a familiar model number, and I think
that's a very nice late 90s 20" trinitron probably with 0.030" dot
pitch.  If so, and it is not some new digital thing with a DVI
connector, then the bits per pixel is an issue for the card, since
the monitor gets analog RGb.
