Happens, doesn't mean you can't boot.

I think the openfirmware is corrupted or malfunctioning, but I dont have any real evidence of that.

This is extremely unlikely, even though you didn't give any useful detail. Your command looks like OF2 or 3, since you can boot from CD it's likely OF3. I've seen many versions of OF that wouldn't list a non- iso9660 directory yet happily boot from it.

if it is corrupted I would like to overwrite it with a fresh one dumped from another machine.

Not recommended at all unless you have an identical machine to dump the ROM from.

So, what exactly are you trying to do? All Apple OF versions have their own weirdnesses and more than likely you just didn't find the right voodoo to make it boot.
So what did you do and what kind of errors do you get?
